A Medieval Festival to celebrate the 750th Anniversary of the Bridport Charter Jousting etc by Destrier, Archery, Living History, Medieval Traders Medieval and Plastic Camping, Food, Bar, Showers etc Register on line at www.bridportandwestbay.co.uk or call Pete Down, The Levy, 01308 456130. This Festival is unique, as Bridport was founded and then given its Charter in 1253 for the production of Rope and Net for the King , Navy etc. Bridport has supplied nets for Wembley and Wimbledon as well as many Football clubs, also the hangmans noose for death sentences until the sentence was commuted to Life. Bridport currently supplies cargo netting for the armed forces and netting for the aircraft industries. The Festival has been organised by the Bridport Charter Group( formed specifically for this year of celebrations - the Medieval Festival is one event of many) and Pete Down of The Levy who has endeavoured to network and liase with Re-enactors and Traders to encourage them to participate in theis special Festival.

The third season of training excavations at St Leonards Hospital, York will take place during 8 July-28 September. The excavations by York Archaeological Trust are intended to investigate the below-ground archaeology associated with two standing structures on the site, the Roman legionary fortress defences and the major medieval hospital of St Leonard. Training is offered to beginners, especially members of the public with little or no archaeological experience. There are also activities for under16s. Visitors are welcome every day.
