Period : victorian
Society : Courtauld Institute of Art
Event : Sculpture in Architecture 1850 to the present
Location : London
Email : martina@henry-moore.ac.uk
Description :
This conference brings together new research and ideas examining the complex, often problematic relationship between sculpture and architecture. Questioning the mediation of the sculptural object through context and setting, speakers will explore the role of architecture in constructing and shaping the 'sculptural encounter'. The event makes an important and timely contribution to the question of how sculpture is influenced by its contexts, both politically and aesthetically. For a conference programme contact Martina Droth (martina@henry-moore.ac.uk, 0113 2467467) or Alexandra Gerstein, Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 0RN (alexandra.gerstein@courtauld.ac.uk).
